In the utility sector, cathodic protection is used extensively to stop corrosion. In this area of application, depending on geographical region or customer wishes, we follow the NBN EN13636:2004 standard Cathodic protection of underground metal tanks and associated pipelines or AMPP SP0169-2024 (former NACE SP0169) Control of External Corrosion on Underground or Submerged Metallic Piping Systems.

Metal pipelines or storage tanks in moist soil are continuously exposed to weather conditions but are also influenced by so-called stray currents from, for example, nearby railways. We use a relatively simple KB system here that, on the advice of the expert, supplies a certain threshold value of continuous current. This protective current can be adjusted automatically or manually (also remotely) and ensures the ultimate degree of protection.
